Fast Relief When It Matters Most

When to Call 911 or Visit the ER Instead of a Dentist

Almost every dental emergency is handled better in our office than in a hospital waiting room. We know your smile, four dentists are here five days a week, and we have the equipment and experience to stop the pain at its source. A small number of injuries need medical care first. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room if any of these apply:

When the situation is unclear, start with the emergency room. Once a medical emergency has been ruled out, call our Naples office and we take it from there. A team member walks you through first aid on the phone and works to get you in front of a dentist as soon as your situation calls for it. Nitrous oxide, oral, and IV sedation are available if you arrive in pain and anxious about treatment.

Common Emergencies And How to Respond

What you do in the first few minutes can protect a tooth and limit the damage. Here is how to handle the problems we see most often. Call our Naples office as soon as something happens, because a team member gives first aid guidance right on the phone, and four dentists are here five days a week.

Toothache That Will Not Let Up
Rinse with warm water and floss gently around the sore tooth to clear anything trapped between teeth. A cold compress against your cheek helps with swelling, and an over-the-counter pain reliever takes the edge off. Pain that lingers often signals infection, so call us the same day rather than waiting it out.
Pick the tooth up by the crown, never the root, and rinse it gently without scrubbing away any tissue. Place it back in the socket if you can. Otherwise keep it in milk or saliva, never water. Call right away, since the best chance of saving a tooth comes within the first hour.
Collect any pieces you find, rinse your mouth with warm water, and hold a cold compress against your cheek if swelling starts. Avoid chewing on that side. A crack can run deeper than it looks, so digital X-rays and intraoral photos at your visit show us how far the damage reaches.
Find the restoration if you can, rinse it off, and try setting it back in place with dental wax. If that does not work, keep it in a small container and bring it with you. Stay off that side when you eat and drink water to keep the area clean until we see you.
Sharp or lingering sensitivity to hot and cold can point to thin enamel, a cavity, or a gum problem. Until your visit, skip anything very hot, cold, acidic, or sugary, keep brushing and flossing carefully, and drink plenty of water. We identify the cause before recommending any treatment.
Rinse with warm salt water and hold clean gauze against the area with steady pressure to slow the bleeding. A cold compress limits swelling. Bleeding that will not stop or a deep cut belongs in the emergency room first. For anything less, call us and we will work to get you seen.

What to Expect

What to Expect During Your Emergency Visit

Knowing how the visit unfolds takes some of the pressure off. Here is what happens from the moment you call our office to the moment you walk out.
1

Start with a Call

Call us and a team member listens, gives first aid guidance over the phone if you need it, and works to get you in as soon as your situation calls for it. We are open five days a week with four dentists in-house, so an urgent problem does not sit and wait for an opening somewhere else.
2

Get a Clear Diagnosis

Once you arrive, we perform an emergency exam and capture digital X-rays and intraoral images to find the source of your symptoms and how far the problem has spread. We then walk you through what we found, answer your questions, and build a treatment plan around it. Estimated costs get reviewed with you directly before anything moves forward.
3

Get Out of Pain

With your plan approved, we work quickly to stop the discomfort. Care may involve a filling, a one-visit crown, gum disease treatment, TMJ therapy, or an extraction when a tooth cannot be saved. Nitrous oxide, oral, and IV sedation are available if you are anxious about treatment.

URGENT CARE, HANDLED HERE

What Makes Our Emergency Care Different

Emergency care here means being seen by dentists who already know your history, in an office equipped to treat the problem rather than refer it on. The stories below are from patients who came in hurting and left with a plan.
Emergency dental care team at Galleria Dentistry
Prompt Emergency Appointments
Four dentists work in-house and our doors are open five days a week, so urgent problems do not wait on one dentist’s schedule. Call and a team member gives first aid guidance right away while working to get you seen.
Nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation are all available here. Dr. Anthony Benza brought sedation dentistry into the practice so patients facing urgent or complex treatment could get through it comfortably.
Extractions, root canal therapy, gum disease treatment, and dental implants placed and restored by our own dentists all happen at our Naples office. Your emergency stays with the team that diagnosed it instead of moving to an outside specialist weeks later.
Dr. Anthony Benza holds CEREC Mentor status and has used digital dentistry for more than a decade, including same-day restorations. When your case allows for it, a damaged tooth can be scanned, designed, and restored in a single appointment.
We explain what we find, review estimated costs with you directly, and recommend the treatment that solves the problem rather than everything that could be done. The decision is yours before care moves forward, and financing through Cherry, Proceed, and CareCredit can spread the cost out.
Dr. Gery Benza founded this practice in 1982 and is in his 45th year of dentistry, now working alongside his son and daughter-in-law. Family ownership means the dentist treating your emergency is the same one you will see at your next checkup.

Frequently asked questions

Emergency Dentistry FAQs

Dental emergencies can feel stressful, especially when you are unsure what to do first. We offer guidance by phone, prompt examinations, and treatment planning for urgent concerns. Review these answers, then reach out to our compassionate family with any questions not covered below.

What dental emergencies does Galleria Dentistry treat?

We treat toothaches, chipped or cracked teeth, hot and cold sensitivity, knocked-out teeth, lost fillings or crowns, broken dentures, loose teeth, soft tissue injuries, jaw pain, and objects stuck between teeth. Call us when something changes, even if the discomfort seems minor.
Yes, contact us as soon as you notice an urgent dental problem. Dental concerns often worsen when left untreated, and early care may help limit further damage. We can provide first-aid guidance by phone and work to schedule your examination as soon as necessary.
Typically, our office is the right place for dental emergencies because we provide dental examinations and treatment. Go to an emergency room for uncontrollable bleeding, trouble breathing, a jaw injury, deep facial cuts, broken facial bones, or another life-threatening concern.
First, we examine your mouth and may capture digital x-rays and intraoral images to understand the problem. Next, we explain our findings, treatment choices, and estimated costs before moving forward. Care may include a filling, one-visit crown, gum treatment, jaw pain treatment therapy, or another procedure.
Collect the pieces, rinse them gently, and bring them to our office. We will assess whether the tooth can be repaired. If the damage is too extensive, an extraction may be necessary. Avoid chewing on that side until you receive professional guidance.
Find the restoration if possible, rinse it, and bring it in a small container. You can try placing it back with dental wax, but do not force it. Avoid chewing on that side, drink water, and call us even if you have no pain.
The cost depends on what caused the emergency and which care is necessary. We cannot provide an estimate before examining you, but we will explain the recommended treatment and estimated costs before proceeding. Payment options are available, and coverage varies by dental plan.
We will examine the source of your toothache or other discomfort and create a plan based on our findings. Treatment could involve a filling, crown, gum care, or a root canal, which removes infection from inside a tooth. Contact us instead of waiting for pain to worsen.
You can tell us about your concerns when you call. Our team will explain first-aid steps, the examination, and possible treatment in clear language. We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, and our four in-house dentists can coordinate your urgent care in a welcoming office.
Routine checkups and cleanings every six months, daily brushing and flossing, and drinking water can help protect your smile. Wear a mouthguard during sports, avoid chewing hard or sticky foods, and do not use your teeth as tools. These habits reduce avoidable damage.
