Grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw often happens as you sleep (also known as Bruxism). This can be caused not just from stress or anxiety, but by sleep disorders or an abnormal bite. It can even be caused from teeth that are missing or are crooked. Some symptoms include:
- Headaches
- Jaw ache in the morning
- Teeth that are painful or feel loose
These symptoms and this problem can lead to fractures in your teeth and jaw disorders. We can fit you with a night guard or appropriate appliance to protect you during your sleep. This appliance actually interrupts the involuntary tug of war between the jaw's side and temporal muscles, reducing clenching intensity by one-third. And, the appliance causes the muscles to relax in a stable position, so that your hyperactive malfunctioning muscles can rest, allowing you to rest comfortably. Often this eliminates bruxism related headaches and/or various kinds of TMJ pain within just a few days of fitting the appliance!
