Dr. Benza will prepare the tooth by removing any old fillings, decay or cracks. Next he will coat the tooth with CEREC powder. Dr. Benza will then take a digital picture of your prepared tooth. This takes the place of the traditional impression. The computer and CEREC 3D software converts the digital picture to a three dimensional virtual model of your prepared tooth. Now Dr. Benza will deign your CEREC restoration (while you watch). Once we have designed your restoration the data is sent to the CEREC Milling Unit. A ceramic block is selected that matches the shade of your tooth that is being repaired and placed in the Milling Unit. The Milling Unit uses diamond coated burs and data received from the computer to reproduce the design. This process usually takes 5-10 minutes depending upon the size and type of restoration. After milling the restoration, Dr. Benza will polish the restoration and bond it into place and check the bite. Your tooth is now restored with no “temporary” and no return trip is necessary.
